Now i feel comfortable as I know i’m not unnecessarily killing my ssd with swap writes containing cached content that honestly, my internet is fast enough for me to not really notice the difference. With chrome / edge, the suspending extension works as designed, which means that my swap is magnitudes lower during the same usage as it is when i used safari. This coupled with the fact that tabs aren’t suspended on Safari (and the extension that is supposed to suspend doesn’t seem to work) meant I had to abandon safari in fear of shortening the lifetime of my SSD. With safari I’ve been getting worryingly large swap writes during just normal usage, due to the insane amount of cache safari keeps for recently viewed websites. I now use chrome and edge instead, with the Great Suspender, Tab Manager Plus and Dark Reader extensions and it has been the best browsing experience i’ve ever had. I’ve been a lifetime user and lover of safari, however with my M1 Macbook Pro this has suddenly changed. I don't think I'd try gaming on it, but I don't imagine many people would want to game on a 13' laptop anyway. I'm still trying to get the hang of MacOS, but I'd whole heartedly recommend taking the leap and getting the Macbook. It feels so much snappier than Firefox, but the RES and uBlock things are kind of deal breakers for me. I use Firefox because I can't find a working version of RES for Safari, plus uBlock.
